Chapter Nine

Edward knew there was no coincidence that the SUV was filled with were's. Reaching into his coat pulling out a small vial. "Put a drop of that on your neck," Edward commanded handing Bella the small glass container. Placing a droplet of the oil on her neck, as it soaked into her skin the scents of evergreens filled her sense's. Passing the vial to Shannon who repeated her actions watching Edward as he peered out from the edge of the curtain.

"Edward what was that," Shannon asked as she handed the vial back to Edward. Making sure she wasn't seen by those outside.

"An old hunter's trick it will hide your scents from the for about an hour," he said as the curtain fluttered closed. "I think they have been watching this place encase someone like me came to investigate." Edward's suspicions that this was a trap was growing by the second. "I want the two of you to remain hidden here while I go deal with these people."

"No Edward I will not allow you to go and face danger alone," Shannon said her voice was stern but loving.

"And allow you to have all the fun," Bella said Shannon nodded in agreement his smile unsettled them.

"That's not what I meant if they know I travel with two others they will prepare for such once we reach their den. You two are going to be my secret weapons," he whisper as he slowly inched the door open. Shannon knew he was right but to have him face off alone against such an armed group. Stepping out on to the landing of the walkway Edwards ears perked as the sounds of guns flowed swiftly from their holsters. Edward's black trench coat fluttered in the air as he raced down he walkway towards the woods that surrounded the motel complex. Shannon pushed Bella to the floor as hammers of their guns struck the firing pins. Glass shattered sending the deadly fly shards throughout the room threatening any with dire consequences to those that entered their path. Gypsum dust filled the room as the bullets buried themselves into the walls. Sharp barks and hasty commands as the armed group ran after Edward.

"Edward!" Shannon cried out over their link. "I know stay there," Edward's voice was calm to calm for Shannon's liking. Shannon couldn't understand how he could be so calm when the very thing that could kill them.

"Bella we must help him," Shannon said pushing herself off the floor. Silver daggers slid out silently from their hidden sheaths. Bella's hand gripped the desert eagle that she had once fingered inquisitively in Edward's armory. Upon entering the woods they could hear the sounds of the fighting as it pushed deeper into the forest. Pushing themselves flat against the trees as they searched for Edward.

"How long can you last you dirty wolf," growled a man off in the distance.

"Why don't you came and find out or are you afraid to face alone wolf," Shannon's breath was caught in her chest as gunshots answered Edward's reply.
